There’s a ton of different bass guitar options out there, though, and it isn’t in your best interest to buy a bass with a quadzillion strings on it just because you’re trying to make some sort of fashion statement (I say that in jest, of course). Having a new type of instrument can do wonders for inspiring creativity and breathing life into some aspects of playing that may get kind of stale sometimes. Without a doubt, most bass players go after instruments with 6 or more strings because they want to shake things up a bit – and not just for the audience. I dare say there are just as many variants of the ‘regular’ 4 string bass as there are different types of guitars. Rumor has it that GP6's score editor is a bit more robust for guitar unfortunately Logic Pro X doesn't have a trial, so it's a $200 gamble. This morning I've messed around with Denemo, which was a UI nightmare that I couldn't get anything done in after a couple of hours, and MuseScore, which was slightly better UI-wise but only seems able to link a tab staff to a single treble or bass staff, but not both (and there's no real "grand staff" type, you have to make one out of a treble and a bass staff, and they're weirdly tied to un-editable instrument types). I'm looking for a decent system for writing tab and score for 8-string guitar, using a grand staff (both treble and bass clefs) linked to 8-string tablature.
